Hilton Head, a barrier island off the South Carolina coast, has become a destination for many along the eastern seaboard of the United States. Accessible within hours from many large cities, the area is known for its temperate climate, long golf season, luxurious resorts, boating and fishing, and rich history. Wildlife is abundant. Hilton Head Island is one of the largest master-planned communities built in the United States. Wide paved sidewalks wind along the major road that passes large, themed neighborhoods. One of the more striking features is that retail and neighborhood conveniences are strategically hidden behind lush foliage as you drive along the major roadways on the island. Shopping and dining are plentiful, but the beaches and resorts are the main draws for this area. Private homes are tucked in along Spanish moss-draped, tree-lined streets. Many have the “Lowcountry” architectural aesthetic which has become popular over the years in this region. Once mostly a vacation destination for golfers and beachgoers, Hilton Head is now a thriving community extending true Southern hospitality to visitors throughout the year.
